Argex: lightweight fillings

Principle
In road, waterway, railroad or building constructions lightweight fillings might cause great inconvenience. Extra horizontal and vertical powers come into force and demand expensive constructions. Lightweight fillings with Argex clay grains can strongly reduce these overpressures, which actually means that every cubic metre of Argex implies a weight reduction of 1 ton compared to a classic filling!
Mainly the reduction of the harder to catch horizontal forces implies constructional reductions. Fillings with Argex grains yet also result in fast, at times immediate consolidation. The grains are well-drained and easy to process: certainly on low-weight bearing surfaces the grains are the perfect answer to draining and foundation problems.
Thanks to its specific characteristics Argex is THE most efficient weight-saving filling material. Especially grain fraction AR8/16-340 round has been applied as filling material in foundation techniques of road, waterway and other building constructions. The porosity of the granulate is so high that 1m³ of Argex consist of over 800 l of air, the sum of the gaps content between and in the grains.

Finally, the stability of the backfill with Argex is very high because the grains are nearly round and, compared to angular and/or broken material, they cannot become smaller when manipulated. Thus many advantages, all contributing in the decision to choose Argex as a lightweight filling material for geotechnical applications.
