Argex into the green

Argex has a long experience with green roofs. Argex grains are put in the drainage layer as well as in the substrate.

We can distinguish two types of roof gardens: the intensively and the extensively cultivated roof garden.

Intensively cultivated Argex roof gardens can be best compared with more conventional gardens on ground level.
As in most gardens perennials, shrubs, lawns and even trees are planted here. Depending on the planting a substrate between 20 and 80 cm is provided. The designer has almost unlimited possibilities for what matters profiling, terraces, paths, water features, etc. The typical construction of an intensive Argex roof garden is composed of a root-resistant waterproof membrane, an Argex drainage layer, a filtration mat with Argex substrate on top in order to minimize the weight and to offer the plants the best growing condition.

Extensively cultivated Argex roof gardens are rather green areas that only allow limited planting such as of succulents, mosses and herbs. Because of the thin substrate (5 to 15 cm) their weight is rather low. These gardens can also be provided on inclined roofs (max. inclination of 30°). Obviously, little to no walking can be done here. For these gardens, broken Argex grains AG 4/8 – 320 kg/m3 brought in tankers are blown on the roof and levelled. On top, pre-cultivated sedums or herbs are unrolled.
